Distance Formula
![Distance = sqrt[(x2 - x1)² + (y2 - y1)²]](equations/0007_equation.gif)
Where:
x2 = x coordinate from the second ordered pair
x1 = x coordinate from the first ordered pair
y2 = y coordinate from the second ordered pair
y1 = y coordinate from the first ordered pair

Additional Information |
The distance formula allows one to find the distance between two ordered pairs on a coordinate plane (or the length of the line that the two points create.)
Say you need to know how far away (2, 6) is from (-5, 4). To use our calculator to get your answer, you'd type "2" in the box labeled "X:" for the first point, "6" in the box labeled "Y:" for the first point, "-5" in the box labeled "X:" for the second point, and "4" in the box labeled "Y:" for the second point and press "Calculate."
