This calculator uses the following formula:

Area = Length * Width
Required Pounds = Area / 1000 * ((Coverage * 100) / Nitrogen)

The percent of nitrogen can be found on the label. Many times it is noted as a series of three numbers such as 25-4-4. The first number is the percent of nitrogen in the bag.
