Additional Information

Miles per hour (MPH) is the average of the amount of miles that are driven each hour (during a trip in a transportation device.)

MPH is used as a measure of speed (speed limits on roads,) time (I'm going 70 miles an hour and we're 140 miles away; it'll be two hours till we get there,) gas mileage (slow down to 65 miles an hour and you won't burn as much gas,) driving safety (he takes turns at 45 miles an hour - he's reckless!,) automobile performance (I can get this baby up to 130 miles an hour,) guesstimated age and experience of other drivers (this person is going exactly 30 miles an hour; he must be an elder or learning how to drive,) and many other things.

Measuring the amount of time it will take you to get to a certain place using your MPH is very helpful. For example, if you're going 60 miles an hour, it means that you travel one mile every minute (there are 60 minutes in an hour and if you divide your MPH into 60 equal segments, (60/60) you get 1 for an answer.) Therefore, if you're 57 miles away from your destination, it will take 57 minutes for you to get there.

Say you're 322 miles away from your destination and you're going 72 miles per hour on the freeway. To figure out how long it will take you to get to your destination, divide 322 by 72 to see how many hours of driving you have left. (The answer is 4.4722; that means it will take you about four and a half hours to arrive at your destination.)

Of course, this method won't always be exactly accurate because the road you're on might be heavily populated and your speed might vary each mile.
